In a timely announcement as the World Surf League's big wave event has just closed up in Portugal, Vision Games are bringing surfing back to the digital front with Surf World Series. The game will release on PS4, Xbox One, and PC some time in 2017. We've got the teaser trailer below.
There hasn't been a full fledged surfing title in over 10 years by my accounting. And I probably haven't played one since riding waves with an ape on a board in the late 80's and T&C Surf Country. I've always felt the act of chain gin the action to a wave has always somewhat limited surfing as a video game in ways that other board sports like snowboarding and skating isn't as much of a slave to. So we will see how Surf World Series attempts to overcome that.
Surf World Series boasts the following features:
“Surfing is an amazing sport that’s been pretty underrepresented in games for some time, so we wanted to bring surfing fans a fun, arcade-style experience that’s all about mastering waves and racking up huge high scores.” said Simon Gardner, CEO of Climax Studios. “Surf World Series is a celebration of those moments when board and wave work together in perfect harmony.”
