From the moment I caught that first trailer for Bound, I knew I was going to have to buy it. Not just because it looked like the balletic movement is unique (though it is), and not just because polygonal art styles are finally closing in on more beautiful settings and characters (though they are), but because my six-year-old has been in ballet since she was four. And, pardon the annoying-as-it-is-obligatory parental bragging, but she's pretty good. I mean, she's no Anna Pavlova or Misty Copeland. My daughter is six. Let's not get crazy. But she pays attention and has a more ballerina move set than most kids her age.
So, Sony's Santa Monica Studio comes out of deep right field with Bound. It's the story of a woman flipping through old diary pages, and dancing her way through the metaphors of her past life. The motion capturing they did for this one is fantastic. You've never seen a protagonist move quite like this in any game before.
Bound is out Tuesday, August 16 on PlayStation 4. Mine's already downloaded. My six-year-old is biting her nails, waiting to play it.
