As have we all, I have been hoping and praying for The Elder Scrolls VI to be announced for years. I thought for sure this year would be the year, but it looks like not only was I wrong, but I was very wrong.
It's no surprise really that there will be an Elder Scrolls VI. It does, however, surprise me that it is apparently so far away. It seems that Bethesda is currently also developing two other titles that are further up in the queue than Elder Scrolls VI. Here's what Todd Howard had to say in his E3 interview:
It's something we love. But it is—I have to be careful what I say—it's a very long way off. I could sit here and explain the game to you, and you would say, "That sounds like you don't even have the technology, how long is that going to take?" And so it's something that's going to take a lot of time, what we have in mind for that game.
Like many people suspected, hoped even, it does seem like they are building a new engine with which to make the next Elder Scrolls game with. Undoubtedly a good thing, but at this pace, I'm starting to think Bethesda is the George R. R. Martin of the video game world.
