[UPDATE: My game-length fears have been abated. A developer from Deliver Us the Moon—in our forum—confirms that the gameplay video below is indeed just a snippet, and isn't indicative of the first episode's length.]
I'm with Gaming Nexus writer Sean Colleli on this one: Deliver Us the Moon hits some cool notes. It looks like a lonely sci-fi explore 'em up with lite puzzles and a NASA aesthetic reminiscent of the awesome 2009 Sam Rockwell and Kevin Spacey movie, Moon.
A couple things: 1) I was nervous about the gameplay content until I saw the YouTuber playthrough below, and 2) I'm still nervous about the episodic nature of this game which, after seing the playthrough, makes me think these episodes might be pretty short chapters indeed. There's no way of knowing if the YouTuber's playthrough is a full episode or just a snippet. I hope it's just a snippet.
Still. I like what I see. Logistically, I have no idea how one would deliver anyone the moon. But I'm ready to take on the job. The rocket launch sequence near the beginning of the video should tell you already that you're not playing a typical "press X to win" game here. The puzzles aren't crazy; they're just smart enough. There's zero HUD and no signposting or suggestions on where to go or what to do, but I don't mind putting on my thinking cap when the environment itself recommends your next move.
Only five days to go on Deliver Us the Moon's Kickstarter. It takes a lot for Kickstarter to get my attention nowadays, but this looks pretty rad.
