I hope The Technomancer rises above its Bound by Flame and Mars: War Logs brothers

More On: Bound by Flame The Technomancer

I don't know what to make of developer Spiders. They're a French studio with a penchant for making beautiful-looking but entirely below average action-RPGs. Their best games can't break a 70 in Metacritic (though they usually weigh in closer to 60), but man they know how to make a captivating trailer. I'll give them that.

So, ignoring Faery: Legends of Avalon, Mars: War Logs, and Bound by Flame (Gaming Nexus score: 7/10), here's The Technomancer. And I'll be darned if it doesn't look great! I mean, they're even throwing in a space western soundtrack for free, and I'm a sucker for Wild West sci-fi trappings. Now, I understand that history is not necessarily an indicator of future performance, but Spiders has established a history of making entirely below average games. But that doesn't mean I can't root for this one. Unfathomably alien-bug-looking creatures, offworld-punk clothing, pulpy sci-fi environments—and did I mention the song choice for this trailer, which probably isn't in the game? It's a cool song choice.

The Technomancer is coming to PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One
