We should have known from the first delay that things weren’t fairing well for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of Mortal Kombat X. The game has seen multiple delays, with the last official one pushing it out until the end of the year. Well, we now know exactly when the game is being released: never.
Warner Bros. and Netherrealm announced on their the WBGames forums that the decision had been made to completely cancel both of the last generation versions of the popular fighter. The reason for the cancellation was cited as being the inability to get the game up to par with the standards set by the core versions of the game.
This really shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone. While I am saddened to see some players get left out in the dark from one of the greatest fighting games ever created, I have to imagine that they would have had to scale back a lot of the game’s features in order to make it work. That would have been a disservice to both the game and the players. We’re getting to that point we’re we are going to start seeing this a lot more often. The last generation of consoles is on its last leg and before long, there won’t be many games launching for either system.
