I absolutely love a good, quality shmup, and while shootem’ up games are a dime a dozen, good ones are hard to come by. There is one on the horizon that I have had my eye on for some time that looks absolutely spectacular: Gryphon Knight Epic. The game is in development for the PC (as well as Mac and Linux) and looks to blend the classic, retro 2D shmup style with exploration and medeival duels. The developer has finally given the title a firm release date and it will be available through Valve’s Steam service beginning on August 20, 2015.
Created by Cyber Rhino Studios, Gryphon Knight Epic has you playing as Sir Oliver, a knight who battles atop his fearless gryphon, Aquila. Your adventure will have you facing off against a wide variety of enemies, including other knights upon their non-standard mounts, such as Simiel Totec on his trusty gorilla, Zafira Faris on top of a deadly, giant scorpion, and even Lorraine Learn on the back of a great white shark. It sounds insane but it looks absolutely fantastic!
