E3 2015: Disney Infinity 3.0 Impressions

More On: E3 2015 Disney Infinity 3.0

Disney's big release is Disney Infinity 3.0 and the theme, of course, is Star Wars. At their booth, Disney was showing off various playsets and characters that will be coming down the pipe.

Star Wars characters from the all six movies and the Rebels cartoon will be available to play with. There are two main play sets which encompass episodes 1-3 and 4-6. Want to experience the trench run in Episode 4? You'll be able to do that with an Infinity playset. Pod racing is what you desire? Race in pods as Jedi Anakin or Darth Vader.

The game's been revamped from the ground up and one example is sword fighting. With lightsaber battles being a big emphasis for the set, the sword combat mechanics have really been revamped to be more fluid and energetic. This will also trickle down to past figures so if you use Captain Barbosa in Disney Infinity 3.0, he will benefit from the new sword fighting features as well.

Star Wars wasn't the only set on display. Disney Pixar's new movie, Inside Out, will also be featured in Disney Infinity 3.0 and it's not going to be just a set thrown together with the theme of the movie. Disney's looking to extend the film with the content that's going to be available for Infinity 3.0. It's good to hear that they are taking an extra effort to add more to the movie and for those who will become fans of the movie when it is released, this is definitely good news. I'd love to see future playsets become extensions of the IP as well.

Also at the Disney booth, they showed many aspects on how they turn a character into an Infinity character. Disney Infinity characters have a distinct look and the characters go through many iterations before they finally are put into the game. For example, Princess Leia starts out looking like a drawing with Carrie Fisher's likeness, but over time it becomes more and more stylized to an Infinity figure. Large clay sculptures are generated and then various molds and castings are developed before the final product is done. It's a long and arduous process that helps ensure you get high quality figures for your game.

Star Wars will pull many new fans into Disney Infinity 3.0, but there are many more things that are under the hood and in other playsets that should keep fans coming back for more.
