Nintendolife has an extensive interview with Q-Games' Dylan Cuthbert coming later today, but here's an interesting early anecdote. Cuthbert worked on the original Star Fox and the SNES sequel that never saw the light of day. Various ROM images of the cancelled Star Fox 2 have leaked over the years, and dedicated fans have even patched and translated them into what amounts to an essentially finished game.
Well, Cuthbert reveals that his team back at Argonaut Software finished the game and an actual completed ROM image still exists. Nintendo even provided a copy when Q-Games was developing Star Fox Command back around 2005. Cuthbert says that despite the impressive ROM the fans have stitched together, the actual completed game was even bigger and deeper. Sadly we probably will never see this version but it's cool to think about in any case. With a new Star Fox slated to hit Wii U this year, who knows? Nintendo might get nostalgic on us and drop a nova bomb on the Virtual Console...
