Fresh on the heals of their paying for mods announcement, and then it's quick reversal, Valve has revealed an interesting new plan to ban players on Steam.
The power has now been shifted to individual game developers who will be able to root out and ban players who they feel are negatively impacting a game.
"Valve allows developers to implement their own systems that detect and permanently ban any disruptive players, such as those using cheats," the statement reads. "Game developers inform Valve when a disruptive player has been detected in their game, and Valve applies the game ban to the account. The game developer is solely responsible for the decision to apply a game ban."
Valve will now confirm the ban in what seems to be an automated process. The quote above highlights what could end up being a slippery slope in turns of permabanning, but it gives banning power to a developer who better understands the nature of their game and the user-base with it. It's also unclear if the player will be banned from the respective game or if his or her Steam account will be shut down completely.
"With great power, comes great responsibility," said the dude in that terrible Spiderman movie.
