Game Informer's May issue dropped today and it's a doozie. Eidos is following up their superb 2011 Deus Ex prequel, Human Revolution, with a direct sequel: Deus Ex Mankind Divided. The new game takes place in 2029, 2 years after the events of Human Revolution. The crisis at the end of that game have kicked off a global apartheid against cybernetically-augmented humans. A disillusioned Adam Jensen must come to terms with the fact that in trying to save the world, he might have pushed it closer to the brink.
In the new game Jensen will get some upgrades, of course. Now he can hack security devices remotely, fire his hidden blades as projectiles, and surround himself with a bulletproof forcefield. Thankfully stealthy options will play just as big a role as before, which is a big part of the series.
To be honest I'm really happy with this news as I love the Deus Ex series and I thought Human Revolution was a brilliant return to form after 2003's disappointing Deus Ex Invisible War. I'm a little surprised that the game takes place so soon after Human Revolution and it still stars Adam Jensen; it's the first direct sequel in the series to follow the same protagonist from the previous game. Of course this isn't a problem as Jensen and his cast of supporting characters are all richly developed and have a lot of cool places they could go.
Deus Ex: Mankind Divided doesn't have a release date yet, but you can bet I'll be upgrading my rig just for this game when it does come out.
