There's something deep down in me that just assumes original content on the PSN is going to be a train wreck. There's another part of me that wants to see it just for the morbid curiosity. If Powers were to come out 10 years ago, or even 5, we could all just assume it going to be terrible. Yet, stop to think about the leaps and bounds "original programming" has taken since then.... Think about HBO originals that put most other entertainment to shame on any media, or Netflix originals that are opening up a entire new industry of cable-free, quality programming and creating a whole new way to consume that programming: by binge watching. Powers, the first-ever scripted original content series produced in partnership with Sony Pictures Television, might actually follow in those footsteps and be, well, pretty darn good. Powers is based on the comic that follows a pair of detectives in a special homicide unit dedicated to investigating crimes of those with super powers.
There's no need to speculate on the merits of the program, because Powers is now available for your viewing pleasure for PS Plus subscribers through the PSN on PS3 or PS4 or online. The first three episodes are already in the Playstation Store, with weekly episodes to follow every Tuesday until the 10 and final airs on April 28th. Even without store access, the first episode is available to anyone via YouTube.
So despite my initial skepticism, I am willing to bet the series might actually be good fun, but I'll need to go get watching to find out for sure...
