Samsung had their IFA event early this morning and besides the announcement of the Galaxy Note 4, which is going to be my next phone, they announced the GearVR. The GearVR transforms the Galaxy Note 4 into a VR headset device.
Oculus is actually the company providing the software for the GearVR so when you plug a Note 4 into the headset, the Oculus software takes over. There's a new mobile SDK and the software is optimized for Android.
This isn't the first time Oculus and Samsung have worked together. The Oculus Rift DK2 uses Samsung Galaxy Note 3 screens for the display and I wouldn't be surprised if the next Oculus Rift release uses the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 screens as the new Note 4 sports a QHD screen.
The GearVR will be out sometime this Fall and the price is not known yet.
