Amazon now rumored to acquire Twitch for $1 billion -Update- now it's official

A few months ago, it was reported that Google/YouTube would be buying Twitch for $1 Billion. It seemed like a natural pick up to me and I thought it was a done deal. Well, maybe not.

The Information is reporting that Amazon will be picking up the streaming service for $1 Billion now. Well, that's certainly different. 

Amazon has been branching out with the introduction of a phone recently. If this is indeed true, then it's certainly a surprise and one I don't think anyone saw coming. Supposedly, an announcement is coming shortly, so we'll have to wait to see if this is indeed going to be the deal that goes through.

-Update- Twitch has confirmed that they will indeed be acquired by Amazon. Twitch CEO Emmett Shear has written a Thank You letter to the Twitch community and after three years of existence, they are now under the Amazon umbrella.
