Austrian developer Nordic Games was one of the companies that came up big in THQ’s bankruptcy proceedings. They landed a handful of IP’s such as Titan Quest, Red Faction, Darksiders, MX vs. ATV, and Destroy All Humans!, among others. Just this past week they managed to snag one more from the ashes of the historic developer: the name itself.
Nordic Games has obtained the trademark rights to begin publishing games under the name of THQ. What does the company gain from this acquisition? How about a recognizable name and logo that has been a staple in the gaming industry for nearly 25 years? This is a very smart move and something that I am surprised wasn’t done sooner. The name itself isn’t everything, but brand recognition can go a long way at establishing your product and that could be a huge boost to them as they begin making use of the intellectual properties they picked up in the auction last year.
