Upper One Games is a video game development studio started by the Cook Inlet Tribal Council in Anchorage, Alaska, and they are the first development studio of native Alaskans. Upper One hopes to use video games as a way to share Alaskan Native mythology with the world, and they have just revealed their first game Never Alone. Never Alone is a puzzle platformer that follows the story of a young girl named Nuna and her fox. The story and setting are heavily influenced by Alaskan culture. It can be played by one person, switching between Nuna and her fox, or cooperatively. The game will be launching this Fall on PC, PS4, and Xbox One. Check out the trailer below.
This amazing looking game is another example of just how widespread video game culture has become. Video games are an amazing way to express not only the ideas of a single person, but potentially a whole group of people. I'm looking forward to checking out Never Alone when it releases, and I hope it is a success so we can see more games from Upper One.
