After eight years of delays, now-director Duncan Jones might've actually started shooting the World of Warcraft movie. The single-player dual-character Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons is free for PlayStation Plus subscribers. And Steam Early Access games like DayZ and Rust are selling like hotcakes – delicious open-world survivalist hotcakes.

I will likely be continuing my trek through Final Fantasy VII. I'm past the farthest point I've gotten in the game in the past (I finally got to the world map ... yeah, I never really got all that far before) and am looking forward to actually finishing this game. Eventually. Hey, I still have 11 months to finish this New Year's resolution.

I gave up trying to get Alien Trilogy to run under Windows 7 and just popped the original PlayStation version into my PS3. It holds up surprisingly well for a mid-90's shooter even with the PS1's characteristic texture tearing, but it's been a chore relearning how to play a first-person shooter on a digital control pad.

This weekend I'll be trying out a recent purchase of Aarklash: Legacy which I picked up during a GOG.com sale; I'm a pretty big fan of strategy games, especially when fantasy and role-playing elements are combined. I'd also like to set some time aside for trying to survive yet again in the harsh online world of standalone DayZ.

This weekend will be the usual routine of Battlefield 4 and Hill Climb Racing (a fairly addictive iPad game), and trying to thaw out from the exceedingly cold weather we are having in central Ohio this week. May venture into Xbox Fitness a bit to see what the service has to offer.

At five bucks on Xbox Live, I guess I sorta kinda gotta play Dark Souls now. I still hear it discussed in hushed, insistent tones, like it never lost cult status even after selling 2.3 million units. Also, grasping at straws, I downloaded Xbox Live's free-to-play vaguely MMO-ish Ascend: Hand of Kul. I named my dude Kul Hand Luke. Unexpectedly, I don't hate the game? I think it's simply appealing to my ego, having little robed guys running around worshiping me while I stumble over their homes and destroy their monuments to me.

Russell's post about playing Cave Story+ last week inspired me to get back into it, since it's been sitting in a file collecting dust ever since I first downloaded it. I forgot how much fun keeping yourself afloat with a machine gun is. Speaking of games I downloaded forever ago, I think I'm finally ready to spend some quality time with The Consuming Shadow – the beta for Ben "Yahtzee" Crowshaw's (Yes, the Zero Punctuation guy's) Lovecraft-inspired roguelike. I've already spent about three hours with it, and I've only gone insane enough to shoot myself twice. Pretty good record, I'd say.

I'll be continuing my two-player romp through LEGO Marvel Superheroes with my girlfriend. It's definitely as fun as advertised and I'm loving it so far. I'm also slowly working my way through Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time on my Vita and I may head back and finish up Fire Emblem: Awakening if I find the time before jumping into The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds. Plenty of backlogged games for me to play. Hopefully I can finish them by the time Dark Souls II comes out and consumes my life.

Charles gave me a case of the Mondays (in the best possible way) by sending me a code for Bravely Default, so I'll be pretty busy with that for awhile. I also picked up Olli Olli for the Vita, and it's perfect for a quick bout of gameplay, though it's a game that requires practice, so maybe I should sit down with it for more than 10 minutes at a time. I've also finally cleared the level-50 hurdle in Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, so now that means it's time for end-game content that I don't think I really have the time to commit to, but I'm going to try.

To combat my hunger for Dark Souls II, I decided to go back to Dark Souls and finally finish my New Game +7 file. After about 200 hours of play I finally finished its hardest difficulty, so what better way to celebrate than to start it over? I'll probably spend at least some of my weekend messing around with a new character in Dark Souls, but I'll also be playing some Dr. Luigi for review. I never played much of the original so I'll be going in mostly blind on this puzzle series. All I know is that "Fever" better be in the game or else.
