Yesterday, Double Fine Productions announced that a new hacking themed puzzle action game called Hack 'N' Slash. A version of Hack 'N' Slash made its first appearance during Double Fine's Amnesia Fortnight 2012 internal game jam and received more votes than any other pitch from the public to turn into a two-week prototype. After being funded by several sources, including Indie Fund and Humble Bundle, Hack 'N' Slash is part of a two-game deal that included Spacebase DF-9.
Hack 'N' Slash is about a young elf that uses her hacking skills to slice and cheat her way through a classic action/adventure game. The team project lead Brandon Dillion said "I've always loved games with lots of secrets in them, and when I first discovered a hex editor in an emulator, it dawned on me that I could be a kind of digital treasure hunter- no game could keep even its deepest secrets from me if I adventured long enough in its code and memory." The game will use unique hacking mechanics to get around old-school gaming tropes that will turn even the least computer savvy player into a digital Indiana Jones.
Hack 'N' Slash is set to release for Windows, Mac, and Linux in the first half of 2014.
