Namco Bandai recently announced the launch of a Tekken Card Tournament on a variety of mobile platforms. The free to play game, which is available for Android, iOS, and the PC, mixes the classic fighting world of Tekken with a card collecting mechanic. Cross platform play is available as players duke it out regardless of their platform of choice.
It looks a lot like the traditional Tekken games, but it is your control interface that is dictated by cards. There are three options: focus, strike, and block. Focus might as well be called “draw, as that is the option that you use to draw a card from your deck. Depending on the lineup of cards you have drawn into your hand, you can then elect to either unleash them as a “strike” or brace for an attack from your opponent with “block”. Honestly, I would describe it as a slightly more complicated version of the classic playing card game”War” (I am sure you know the game). there are a lot of other mechanics that play into it though aside from whoever has the strongest card(s).
It is a very simple game and also extremely addicting. I have put in quite a bit of time over the past week without regret. There are additional card packs available for purchase in the game, but you can also work towards unlocking them on your own without breaking out the credit card. Plus, Namco plans on releasing physical booster card packs in stores this coming Summer to enhance the experience; those cards feature a unique QR code that let’s players scan them into their virtual collection for the game.
If you want to check it out, head over to the iTunes App Store, the Google Play Store, or the game’s official website and check it out!
