I know that I am in the minority based on the reactions of many gamers back at E3 2012, but I am extremely excited about the potential of Sony’s Wonderbook as a platform. There is so much potential in this project from an educational standpoint that, as a father and a gamer, I can’t help but get excited. If you haven’t seen it, Wonderbook will work in conjunction with the PlayStation Eye camera and the Move controller to bring specially created books to life using augmented reality.
Sony recently announced a firm release date for the first title in the Wonderbook line of products, JK Rowling’s Book of Spells, based on the incredibly popular Harry Potter universe and kicked off a developers’ diary video series regarding the project. The title and the platform as a whole will make its debut on November 13, 2012 exclusively for the PlayStation 3. Gamers everywhere will be able to pick up the Wonderbook peripheral and the title on its own for $39.99 or included with a special edition Move Bundle that also includes the PS Eye and the move controller. Players will be able to go hands on with wizard training based on the Harry Potter universe and learn and use classic spells form the books and movies including Wingardium Leviosa and Expelliarmus.
You can check out the dev diary below and look forward to picking up the title this November!
