Disney has a new movie coming out this coming Holiday season that will show a little love to the video game industry. Say hello to
Wreck-it Ralph!
Wreck-It Ralph is best described as being very similar to the classic Who Framed Roger Rabbit?. If you aren’t familiar with that film, it featured a variety of animated and real-world characters’ worlds blending together. It was like a Hollywood / cartoon world crossover and it was thoroughly entertaining.
In Disney’s new film the primary villain from the fictional game Fix-It Felix, Wreck-It Ralph, is out to prove that he is more than just a bad guy; he can be a good guy too. Ralph, voiced by James C. Reilly, will make his way across numerous video game genres and titles attempting to prove that he can do some good in this world. Although the character and many of the film’s depicted games will be fictional, numerous prominent game companies have joined the project and loaned some of their most recognizable characters to the film.
Sega, Capcom, Nintendo, and Namco Bandai have all agreed to take part in the film and some of the characters confirmed to make appearances are:
-
Bowser from Super Mario Bros.
-
Dr. Eggman from Sonic the Hedgehog
-
Zangief from Street Fighter
-
Mega Man and Dr. Wily from the Mega Man games
-
Kano from Mortal Kombat
-
Pac-Man and ghosts from the Pac-Man series
I would be lying if I said that I was at least curious about how this project will turn out. The premise sounds hilarious and if done right, this could be extremely entertaining. The film is currently scheduled for a November 2, 2012 release.
