Finally, after years and years... and years... Konami is bringing the classic, 6-player arcade beat’em up X-Men to the home consoles. The title was announced this weekend for the Xbox Live Arcade and the PlayStation Network at the New York Comic-con. Marvel revealed the title during their panel on Saturday.
While the release date and price points have not been announced, it is known that this will be an exact port of the classic arcade title. The game will allow up to 6-players to play online cooperatively, with drop in and drop out gameplay supported on both consoles. The original title, which was released back in 1992, is arguably one of the defining titles of the beat’em up genre. Players were able to choose between 6 members of the X-Men team and face Magneto’s goons across a number of stages. You could play as Wolverine, Cyclops, Colossus, Storm, Nightcrawler, and Dazzler (my personal favorite). Players have been wishing and praying for years that this game would be brought to consoles. The original arcade machine, the full versions, was a massive dual-system machine that stretched across 2 screens. I still have to play the game whenever I see it out and about, which is a rarity.
