Epic’s free version of the
Unreal Engine 3 development kit has been updated with a new feature: Steamworks. The new version allows would-be game creators to utilize Steam’s matchmaking features, server browsing, and friends list. The other, and perhaps biggest break for users of the kit, is the ability to distribute their game through the Steam service.
The update also added the ability to use Scaleform GFx, Point Lights, Exponential Height Fog, and Color Grading Blending. What does that all mean? Well, a lot to indie game makers... and you should know that it is going to lead to higher quality indie projects for all of us.
