UGBD recently sat down with producer Keith Hladik for an in-depth
interview on High Voltage Software's new fighting game,
Tournament of Legends. The interview has a lot of great details about the game's development, particularly its transition from the Gladiator A.D. prototype into the more dynamic fighting game it is today. HVS has made the story more myth/fantasy based, with a number of combatants each questing to defeat Thantatos, the god of death. It's a good interview, especially considering the game hasn't gotten a whole lot of attention yet.
There hasn't been a lot of buzz for Tournament of Legends but it's shaping up to be a compelling fighting game. It combines traditional fighting game conventions like weapon combat with a unique over-the-shoulder perspective and a magic attack system. The game's motion controls map the Wii remote and Nunchuk to the right and left arms of the fighter and mixes them with button combos, although the Classic Controller is supported as well. It's an interesting mash-up of new ideas and fighting game staples, and I'll definitely be checking it out when the game releases in early July.
