One product at CES 2010 that
caught my eye was the Optoma GameTime family of projectors. There hasn’t been a dedicated mainstream gaming projector on the market since Panasonic discontinued its line after the
PT-AX200U a few years ago. Well, the
Optoma GT720 (the 720p gaming projo) hit retailers last week and GamingNexus managed to get a hold of one of the first review units made available to the press.
So far, there is very little not to like about the 720GT, as it is easy to set up, lightweight and looks great when the settings are matched to the console. The only negative is that Optoma has cut some inputs and utilized mostly manual controls to keep costs down on the GT720 (with a very attractive MSRP of $799.) Regardless, the bottom line for any projector is performance for the price and how good does it look.
So far I have been very happy with the gaming quality the Optoma GT720 has provided which has been displaying a really good picture while gaming with an Xbox 360 Elite. So far, I have been focused on gaming with visually striking titles such as
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2,
Rock Band 2 and
The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion and have been impressed. Although the projector has a max resolution of 720p, utilizing the DLP technology instead of LCD seems to provide a better overall picture than what I have experienced in the past. However, I will take a look at that comparison alone with video performance, lag time, features, functions and its overall portability.
