A tidbit revealed by
Xbox Gaming (I first saw it on
Engadget) shows a Xbox 360 Super Elite console available for purchase in South Africa in an advertisement put out by
BT Games. A new Xbox 360 sku would fill in the gap left by phasing out the Pro unit, which Microsoft will stop production of, once again establishing the basic, middle, and advanced pricing ring that has been established by Microsoft. While this move makes sense, after all the most basic improvement that could be made would be a hard drive memory increase, I'm sure that many speculators thought (myself included) that the next Xbox 360 would have something to do with Project Natal. Whether or not this "Super Elite" is supposed to be the next Xbox 360, one that is Natal compatible, that David Ellis supposedly
let slip out during a press conference this year, or just a move by Microsoft to make some money by selling a larger hard drive to consumers is unclear at this time. I wouldn't be surprised if this new console was just an Elite with a larger hard drive, re-establishing the tri-ringed pricing scheme already established by Microsoft, but part of me wonders if there won't be some sort of extra hardware tucked away inside. Like a sleeper agent waiting for the signal from Microsoft to activate and allow the use of the next big piece of software from Microsoft; Project Natal.
