Matrix Games and Binary Evolution have announced a brand new World War II strategy game made for veteran and newcomer wargamers alike. Its name:
Operation Barbarossa: The Struggle for Russia. To give everyone an idea of the plot of the game, I think it's time for a short history lesson,
once again... Operation Barbarossa, or as the Germans called it,
Unternehmen Barbarossa, was the code name of the Nazis operation to invade Russia and defeat the USSR in one massive campaign.
The result was victory for the Germans, although they didn't achieve their goal of total victory over Russia. The casualties on the German side were 250,000 dead, 500,000 wounded, and 25,000 missing, not including lost aircraft or tanks. On the Russian side, 802,191 dead, 3,000,000 wounded, and 3,300,000 captured, not including any lost tanks of aircraft. Operation Barbarossa is considered the largest military operation, in terms of numbers in manpower and casualties, in human history to this day.
That should give everyone an idea of the shear scope and potential of Operation Barbarossa: The Struggle for Russia. The release date and platforms have yet to be announced, although I estimate its release sometime next year, or guess it will likely be released for the PC.
