While Ubisoft was announcing at E3 that it's making greater inroads into other markets tangent and perpendicular to video games, they also released some details on what will be "the best visual experience" on the Nintendo DS: the upcoming
C.O.P. The Recruit. John Yan was on the E3 floor, getting
the scoop.
This open-world cop drama blends underground street racing and on-foot counter-terrorism. I guess. Why the
Criminal
Overturn
Program (see what they did there?) needs a jerk in a rice burner to take down Timothy McVeigh leaves me with question marks over my head, but 20 hours of gameplay and 60 missions sounds good; especially with them throwing in "a city thriving with life," and your ability to launch SWAT team assaults through the DS's microphone.
The open world packs in six square miles, plenty of traffic, varying environmental and climate conditions, and (in addition to telling SWAT what to do) setting up roadblocks, calling ambulances, and accessing the city's camera system to locate targets.
This one's scheduled for Fall 2009.
