Lord of the Rings Online: Mines of Moria has taken 1UP's “Best MMORPG” of 2008 Reader’s Choice Awards by a land slide. Moria beat out
World of Warcaft's
Wrath of the Lich King expansion taken almost half of all votes cast in the MMO category. Other contenders included new comers
Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning and
Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures as well as
Pirates of the Burning Sea.
Having played all but
POTBS, I understand how difficult it is to choose between these fine MMOs. However I'm not surprised that Moria triumphed. Although the basic mechanics of most MMOs are necessarily similar, Moria combines balanced solo and fellowship (team) play with innovations such as the leveled legendary items and an intriguing backstory that brings Tolkien's Middle-earth to life for players.
