Stardock CEO Brad Wardell has penned a nice
editorial over at Edge.com challenging the idea that Steam is going to dominate the digital distribution marketplace forever . He looks at a few of their statistics and wonders aloud what will happen when games comes out on all platforms at the same time forcing competitors to compete on price. He makes a few valid points (I don't think Steamworks is a bad thing though) but it comes down to games and convenience. Steam has been around for a while and most of the kinks have been worked out. Steam also has the majority of my friends on it and hooking up with people to play games on the service is dead simple.
I do like Stardock's Impulse service but I really only use it to play
Sins of a Solar Empire and the odd game of
Galactic Civilization II and if those games were on Steam there wouldn't be much reason to fire it up. What do you think? Which services do you use and why?
