Square Enix trademarks Deus Ex Human Defiance

More On: Deus Ex: Human Revolution
Deus Ex Human Revolution is one of my favorite games of this generation so naturally I'm eager for any news on a sequel. Now Polygon is reporting that Square Enix just submitted a trademark application for the title Deus Ex: Human Defiance. Considering DXHR came out in 2011, two years is about normal timing for a followup announcement, assuming Eidos Montreal has been hard at work on the next installment. I have a feeling we'll be seeing more at E3, but for now, the nature of this trademark has me intrigued.

Deus Ex Human Defiance can be acronymized as Deus Ex HD. We've seen this clever acronym in updated games like Painkiller Hell and Damnation, so it begs the question--is this another prequel like HR, a sequel, or...an HD remake of the original Deus Ex? To be honest I wouldn't want any gameplay updates to the original game, with all of its delightfully quirky, half-broken but memorable mechanics...but an HD graphical facelift, like the awesome Serious Sam HD? Sign me up.
