A few days ago Nintendo shot down a rumor that they would soon consider making games for mobile devices, and it seemed like they would never even consider making the jump from video games consoles to phones and tablets. But things change quick in the world of gaming, at and yesterdays financial results meeting CEO Satoru Iwata that Nintendo was considering developing for mobile platforms. He was sure to mention they wouldn't just make ports of their console games, but instead would try to create all original content to take advantage of the new platform.
Many have said that Nintendo would only develop mobile games when they were in their final hours, but I really don't think it is any big deal. Its possible that they just never considered it a legitimate platform until now, and I'm excited to see what they can do with it.
