It was recently reported on
Highway Games that Nintendo and Namco are teaming up once again to craft an arcade version of Mario Kart.
Mario Kart Arcade GP DX has been revealed for the arcade scene. It will hit Japanese arcades this Summer and elsewhere later in the year. The game will make its official debut at the 2013 Japan Amusement Expo later this month.
The new arcade racer builds on the previous arcade experience Namco and Nintendo crafted in the previous arcade versions and incorporates a variety of features from the 3DS’ Mario Kart 7. The setup will support up to four cabinets connected together and incorporate the NamCam feature utilized in most of Namco’s modern arcade racers.
If you have never played the arcade version of Mario Kart, you are truly missing out. These aren’t straight ports of the console and handheld versions of the game. They are deeper and have much better visuals; I pumped tons of money into the machine at our local Gameworks (when it was open) here in Columbus. Perhaps this is similar to what we will be seeing in the Wii U version of the game that will be revealed at E3.
