There has been a lot of new lately about the poor sales performance of the Wii U and Nintendo facing huge operating losses, but rather than battling these problems by laying off workers Satoru Iwata and other Nintendo heads have decided to take cuts in their own wages. Iwata will be taking a 50% cut, Miyamoto 30%, and a few others will be taking losses of 20%. These cuts will continue until June, and from there salaries may be restored if performance goes up. Iwata did the same thing a few years ago when the 3DS was in dire straits, but as we all know that system turned around and is currently the biggest selling piece of gaming hardware on the market today.
As a Nintendo fan I always worry about the company in times like these, but I have to commend them for taking cuts from the top rather than the bottom. Iwata has said before that layoffs only lower worker morale and cause even more problems. Lets hope that they can turn the Wii U around as well so we can see more great games like Pikmin 3 and Super Mario 3D World in the future.
