MRI's Black Powder Ultra. Not just for athletes anymore

More On: Black Powder Ultra
Powdered energy drinks are usually used by athletes from various sports, but did you know that one particular drink is also used by gamers? MRI's Black Powder Ultra was the official fuel of Gam3rCon last week and MRI was nice enough to send us along a sample to try.

I am not an athlete nor do I drink energy drinks so when the sample arrived in the mail, I have to admit, I was a little intimidated. So, I followed the instructions on the container and mixed up a small batch. I am happy to say it actually tasted pretty good and I normally hate the taste of energy drinks. I do recommend making sure the water you mix with this is very cold water. First time I tried it, I got the water straight from the tap and it was luke warm, so it tasted kinda weird. I put it in the refrigerator for a little bit and it tasted a lot better.

There was one game I knew I wanted to try this with. Counter Strike. I have been playing Counter Strike probably since it was released and no matter what I do, I always end up dying, a lot. Black Powder Ultra is supposed to give you the extra energy and focus for those long gaming sessions so I figured this would help me stop causing my team to lose. I drank some Black Powder Ultra, sat at my computer and fired up Counter Strike for a nightly game session. I did find that I was able to play a lot longer than I usually do. I am an extreme multitasker. When I game on PC, I usually have a movie or something playing on the TV next to me and often times I find myself getting killed because I'm idling while not paying attention. Same goes for when I game on consoles. I usually have a video or something else playing on the PC. After trying Black Powder Ultra I found myself paying attention to the game and I felt awake when I normally find myself getting tired and that was only from a small sample. Now I haven't tried this while doing an exhausting workout so I can't comment on that, but I do feel like it is a pretty good energy booster for those intense gaming sessions.

The powder may seem expensive at $59.99 per unit, but you do get a lot of use out of it. It's not something you will run out of quickly unless you are gaming nonstop 24/7. They come in 240g containers and come with about 40 servings. They also come in three different flavors including Watermelon, Blue Raspberry and Black Cherry Bomb. If you are both an athlete and a gamer then this sounds perfect and you should absolutely consider giving it a try.

I'm going to hold on to some of this and try it next year when I attend PAX East 2014. 12+ hours of walking and gaming? Yeah, I'm gonna need all the energy I can get.
