Game Developers Choice Awards opens voting

More On: Game Developers Choice Awards
The third Annual Game Developers Choice Online Awards have opened online voting for the audience award. The show is in October, but the voting is open August 27th to September 14th. The voting pertains to online persistent games, including MMO, free-to-play titles. There's a lot of growth and innovation currently in that field, with previous winners including the phenomenally popular League of Legends, so it's always interesting to see what the audience award yields. In any case it's a lot more enjoyable than the TV-through-window-inducing Spike VGAs. Check out the list of nominees here.

SAN FRANCISCO –– Game Developers Choice Online Awards organizers have announced the opening of the Audience Award, encouraging online game fans worldwide to vote for their favorite persistent online game from August 27 until September 14.

The winner of the Audience Award will be revealed at the Game Developers Choice Online Awards ceremony, to be held on the evening of October 10, 2012 as part of the 2012 Game Developers Conference Online (GDC Online) which is taking place at the Austin Convention Center in Austin, Texas October 9-11.

The third annual Game Developers Choice Online Awards – a sister event to GDC's notable annual Game Developers Choice Awards in San Francisco – is the premier award ceremony honoring the accomplishments of the creators and operators of online games.  With hundreds of thousands of votes cast in the past, the Audience Award is one of the most hotly contested of the show, with previous winners including KingsIsle's Wizard101 and Riot Games' League Of Legends.

Those voting for the Audience Award simply have to enter the name of the game and a valid email address to receive an email and confirm their vote. They may pick from any currently operating persistent online game, whether it be a subscription MMO, free-to-play web game, social network game or anything else. More information on the Audience Award can be found at http://www.gdconlineawards.com/audience.php.

A good starting point for games to consider is the list of recently announced nominees of the Game Developer Choice Online Awards, which run the gamut of online titles. These developer-nominated titles span from expansive and hugely popular MMOs through addictive social network-based titles.  More information about the awards and the full list of nominees can be found at http://www.gdconlineawards.com.

GDC Online takes place in Austin, Texas from October 9-11, 2012. Information about sessions and registration for the show is available at www.GDCOnline.com.
