With the latest announcement(s) coming out of
G4, I think that we can officially pronounce the network as did in relation to the world of video games. Many will argue that it died a long time ago, but now I think that even those still holding onto hope have to let it go. According to
TV Guide, the network has officially canceled X-Play and Attack of the Show.
It hasn’t been a secret that the network had major rebranding plans in store for 2013, but there was at least a little hope that it would retain some of its video game programming. Unfortunately, that doesn’t appear to be the case. Both of the channels remaining, hallmark game shows will conclude their runs this coming December with series finales. I guess that they needed time slots to squeeze in some extra COPS reruns.
What is it going to take for a video game network to succeed in today’s market? We are talking about one of the biggest industries in the world today and none of these ‘executives” seem to be able to bring it to the television network world. Is Spike TV our only hope?
