Gunnar Optiks Overwatch Glasses

Gunnar Optiks has a nice variety of game branded glasses and for those who do sit in front of a monitor a lot and want help with some eye strain, they’re a good option. We’ve tested a few of their glasses in the past and they’ve seemed to help with making it easier to work or play for long periods of time in front of a computer screen.

Fans of Overwatch might want to check out their two offerings. The Overwatch Ultimate pair are rectangular shaped set of eyeglasses with straight temples. Made of a sturdy yet slightly flexible polymer, it comes in an Ash gray color with orange accents on the side ending with three silver dots on the tips. The orange area has a nice soft hexagon pattern on the part where it contacts the side of your head while it’s smooth on the outside.

Lenses are coated with anti-reflective and smudge resistant material so they should be easier to clean and help with eye strain. There’s two different color offerings and I got the standard amber color that blocks 65% of blue light. The other option is a clear color that blocks 35% of blue light.

Near the hinge on the outside is a very nice Overwatch logo in a reflective chrome like material. It stands out well on a black background with the outer Ash color. The hinges on these are not spring loaded, but the entire frame does flex a little bit, so if you do have a wider head it should not damage that area. The clamping force might be a little bit tighter though for a wider head shape and as a very long time glasses wearing person, I’ve always preferred spring hinges for both comfort and durability.

There are no nose pads on this design as the frame has molding that allows for it to sit on the bridge of your nose. That’s one less thing to lose on a set of glasses and I found them to be comfortable even without some silicon pads in that area.

The design of the Overwatch Ultimate makes it so they sit pretty close to your face. With that, your entire field of view is within the lenses so if you’re the type of person that doesn't want to see any edge of a set of eyeglasses, then the Overwatch Ultimate is your kind of design. With these on my face, the only part of the frames I saw were in the left and right of my peripheral vision while the vertical and diagonal field of view was just the lenses. Your head shape will determine what you see, of course.

They are pretty light, weighing in at around 20 grams. Frame width is at 132 mm with the temples coming in at 140 mm. The large lenses measure 42 mm in height and 57 mm in width.

To go with the Overwatch theme, the package comes with an Overwatch branding cloth carrying case with the Tracer prominently featured on the other side. For cleaning, a nice microfiber cloth is also included with various characters on the front and the Overwatch logo on the back.

Coming in at $69, that’s not a bad price for fans of Overwatch. Gunner sent this pair to me, but I didn’t get to review them for long periods of time since I do wear prescription glasses. You can order these as well with a prescription, but it’ll be a lot more expensive if you do. Because of that, I couldn’t review them to see if they were comfortable in long stretches, but my brief time having them on, I thought they felt pretty good.

The other Overwatch branded set of eyewear is the Overwatch D.Va Tokki Edition. As you can see, these are cat eye shaped so designed for females in mind. They come in what’s called sparkle blue color with a blue upper half and a pink lower half on the frame. On the front corners are two chrome bunny logos that my daughter actually loves.

Lenses are coated with anti-reflective and smudge resistant material like the Overwatch Ultimate and they also offer two colors as well with the Amber one provided to me by the company.

Material wise, the frames are made of a harder acetate plastic making the frame around the lenses pretty rigid. It has a glossy finish to it, compared to the matte finish of the Overwatch Ultimate. It also has the molded nose rest area and these do also sit close to the face/

The stems are white and have a curve at the end like a lot of normal pairs of eyeglasses.The inside of the temples are translucent so you can see the metal interior. The metal and plastic combination does make these temples a lot stiffer so if you want a more rigid design for glasses, the D.Va Tokki Editions are for you.

Now, on the website it says they are flexible spring hinges, but the pair that was sent to me were not. Once flipped out, they stop and don’t flex any further. Contrast that to my regular pair of glasses, the temples flex about another 15 degrees past the 90 degree point. Looking at the pictures on the website, they look to have the same set of hinges as the one I have, but maybe they changed it to spring hinges after the company sent me them. I’ll double check with the company and will update this when I hear back.

Measurement wise, the frames have a width of 130 mm and the temples have a length of 140 mm. Lenses are not a uniform shape, of course, but they have a measured width of 54 mm and a height of roughly 48 mm depending on the area.

The cat eye shape design is pretty fun for kids and I do know of some adults that enjoy this type of design. Included with the D.Va Tokki Edition is a nice little faux leather case that clips around the lenses. Attached is a strap and a clip so you can clip it to say a backpack or a purse. You’ll also get a cleaning cloth that has a few logos on either side and a cloth pouch with a white bunny D.Va logo on one side. I prefer the character design of the microfiber cloth on the Overwatch Ultimate set, but that’s a small nitpick.

If you’re interested in the D.Va Tokki Edition set of Gunnar Optiks, these will run you $125. It’s one of the more expensive sets, but you do get a nice carrying case along with the cloth pouch and a fun design if you like cat eye glasses. Hopefully, they do come with spring hinges as advertised as I think with a design like this, spring hinges make more sense than it does on the Overwatch Ultimate.
