Ys: Oath of Felghana coming to PSP

More On: Ys: The Oath of Felghana
The PSP has become the flagship platform for niche RPGs in the last couple of years, and now it's getting another one from XSEED. Ys: Oath of Felghana continues the obscure series that started on Japanese home computers, then migrated to 16 bit consoles and back again to PCs in 2005. There isn't a whole lot of info yet (sorry, no definitive release date, just sometime in November) but the game promises "fast and frenetic gameplay" and "endless cycles of discovery and exploration," which is par for the course with these games.

It'll be released both on UMD and for PS Store download at around $30, but a limited collector's release for $40 includes the soundtrack and a desktop art calendar so fans should look out for that.
XSEED Games Ushers in a New Era of Nostalgia with Ys: The Oath in Felghana

Listen up Generation Ys! Fans of the Ys series, that is. The next title in the fan favorite series stemming from XSEED’s partnership with legendary RPG developer Nihon Falcom promises to further expand the legacy of the Ys series in North America. With Ys: The Oath in Felghana, XSEED plans to bring Falcom and Ys fans a much-welcomed sense of nostalgia, along with a fresh classic gaming experience for those who are new to the series when it launches exclusively on the PSP®(PlayStation®Portable) system later this year.

To celebrate the upcoming release, XSEED is taking a trip down memory lane…

Originally conceived as Ys III: Wanderers from Ys and released on Japanese computer systems in 1989, the game eventually found its way to North America on the TurboGrafx-16 CD, Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis systems. While it was a success at the time, it was with the later remake Ys: The Oath in Felghana, that the title truly struck a chord with gamers. Released for the PC in 2005, this version delivered fans of the series a reimagined version, with a new take on the graphics, updated story, characters, expanded level design and even basic combat to capture the best of the Ys legacy. The already highly-regarded soundtrack to Ys III got a full makeover as well, with every track rearranged and performed using almost entirely live instrumentation.

In April of this year, Falcom once-again heard the cries of Generation Ys, and confirmed they were bringing the Ys: The Oath in Felghana experience to the PSP system. The fast and frenetic gameplay paired with the endless cycles of discovery and exploration in the open world of Felghana was beautifully re-imagined for the small screen without sacrificing the experience of its big screen predecessor.

XSEED Games is currently in the final production stages for Ys: The Oath in Felghana. This all-new localization includes fully-voiced cut scenes specifically added for the PSP release and a satisfying story rife with melodrama.
