Earlier this year when I was in Los Angeles for the
WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2010 preview event, I had noticed the general whispers of the legal battle between Jakks and THQ over their joint WWE franchising license. There weren't a lot of details given, but the journalists who were passionate about WWE and the games based on the franchise expressed concern. New details have come to light on gaming mag Edge's website
concerning the matter. Not only did
THQ win the legal battle with Jakks but it has now signed a deal with the WWE directly. A
lot of money has changed hands between the three companies but in the end THQ secured a eight year deal giving them exclusive rights to make all game based WWE content. My hope is that THQ does not squander this new found freedom and continues to develop high quality WWE games.
