This is what I call bad marketing: a new TNA Wrestling game is headed to mobile devices, a week after the company changes its name and drops the “TNA”. The new game, TNA Wrestling IMPACT!, which will be releasing on May 19, 2011 for iOS and Android devices, is coming courtesy of Namco Bandai.
I cannot lie, the game doesn’t look half bad. I thoroughly enjoyed the first TNA mobile game released a few years back, but that title was in a completely different genre than this one, which looks like a real time wrestling title rather than the strategy / simulation game I have fond memories of. The title of the game is a little confusing to me though; for those who don’t follow wrestling, TNA is officially dropping the “TNA” name this week and will be known simply as Impact Wrestling going forward. Couldn’t they have communicated this with Namco in order to ensure that the change was / is reflected in the new game?
Either way, below you can check out the reveal trailer for the new game which looks pretty cool. The game will have 24 playable characters as well as the ability to create your own superstar. Confirmed playable characters include:
Abyss
AJ Styles
Hernandez
Hulk Hogan
Jay Lethal
Jeff Hardy
Kurt Angle
Pope
Ric Flair
Rob Van Dam
Samoa Joe
Shannon Moore
Sting
Tommy Dreamer
I am pretty sure that you can also expect the likes of Mick Foley, Matt Morgan, Beer Money, and the Motor City Machine Guns in the game as well. The game resembles the older, N64 wrestling titles in terms of look... now let’s just hope that the gameplay is just as comparable...
