Part of me saw this coming and while it's not official yet, Interplay could be on its way out.
Develop has a story on the current situation of Interplay and it's not looking too good.
At the turn of the year, Interplay had $3,00 in hand and a working capital deficit of close to $3 million. Yeah, that's not good.
They have a few projects in line, but now all of them are in jeopardy. The biggest one, of course, is the
Fallout MMORPG, that they've fought hard to hold on and to try and develop. After all said and done, we could see what I view as the inevitable: Fallout MMORPG rights going to Bethesda, who will then put a full staff on board to try and develop.
Interplay was one of my favorite studios growing up with some great PC titles that I have many fond memories of. Games such as The Bard's Tale, Wasteland, Fallout 1 and 2, Star Trek 25th Anniversary, and Baldur's Gate just to name a few. We might be looking at the last few months of a once great studio.
