I don't usually post stories from IGN but Matt Casamassina, their Nintendo editor veteran, has a good
editorial up about Nintendo's general laziness this generation. He does this about once a year and it's always interesting to see his take on the state of the Big N. Matt basically says what everyone else is thinking; Nintendo has squeaked by on buzzwords like "innovation," "simplicity" and "accessibility" while turning out shallower and cheaper games.
We might get something good once in a great while like
Mario Galaxy but the rest of the time Nintendo is recycling old Gamecube software and running old franchises intro the ground. We really haven't seen a serious new IP from the company yet, and both casual gamers and Nintendo fans are letting the Big N get away with fleecing us by buying up anything they release. I know it's an old problem and a familiar complaint but it's nice to see someone like Matt call Nintendo out on their Scroogeness.
This doesn't mean that I won't enjoy
Zelda Spirit Tracks or
New Super Mario Wii, and I'm looking forward to the stuff they have planned for next year, but it'd be nice to have something compelling to play on my Wii as often as my 360.
