Empire Total War gives its AI a total overhaul

Patch 1.6 is out now for Empire Total War and it promises to deliver "a large number of revisions to the Artificial Intelligences in real time battles". That may not sound like a big deal on paper, but as any fan of strategy games can tell you; if the AI does not behave in a consistent and expected fashion then the experience can be a poor one. Among the improvements are more tactical melee engagements, more organized army movements, and lines of troops that keep rigid in their formations. That means... absolutely nothing to those of us who haven't played the game. I'm sure that more than a few PC strategy buffs are dusting off the old shortcuts on their desktops and giving Empire: Total War another go. Have fun "better...engaging opponents with flanking attacks".
