While the next installment in the Mortal Kombat series isn’t launching until 2011, Warner Bros. and Netherrealm Studios appear to be cooking up something to hold MK fans over in the mean time.
TRMK has posted information regarding a
Mortal Kombat HD Kollection that will be released this November.
While the game itself has yet to be officially announced but everything seems to be falling into place. Last week, a listing for the game popped up on numerous retail outlets and has since been removed. According to the information that
TRMK has posted, the
Mortal Kombat HD Kollection will contain update, HD ports of the original arcade games Mortal Kombat, Mortal Kombat 2, and Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3. This HD upgrade is said to be more than just an upgrade in the resolution department, Warner Bros. and Netherealm are supposedly completely rebuilding the games with new digitized graphics using new actors and HD cameras.
Hopefully Warner Bros. will make an official announcement soon and confirm this project to be a reality. I was a huge fan of the early MK series, spending most of my weekends growing up at the local Aladdin’s Castle and Putt-Putt placing my quarter and tokens on the glass to call next... unless I was the one running up the win streak of course. I would love to play updated version of the original 3 games, especially if they include an online component. It will be really interesting to see how the game looks using the same visual style but filmed with modern technology. You can get a taste of what went into the original game(s) below as this video was taken from the personal Youtube page of Daniel Pesina, who played many characters in the original game. Think of what they could do with an HD camera compared to the source footage they had to use back in the early ‘90‘s...
