As you would expect the launch of the new iPhone last week was a huge success for Apple as
they have moved 1.7 million of the devices from Thursday to Saturday. Given the impact that the phone has had on the casual gaming market there's no doubt that they will set another record when they sell tie 4G and the 4GS at some point in the future (I kid Apple fans, I kid).
What's not clear from the numbers is how many of those phones went to new customers and how many were people who upgraded to the new phone. Given that these are all early adopter sales I'm guessing that the majority went to people who already had Apple devices (which creates a
nice market for used devices) so I'm not sure how much Apple has really expanded their user base.
Like it or not the handheld market is here to stay for the long haul and it's going to be interesting to see if the devices ever get more complex games that could be considered "core". What do you think? Let us know in the comments.
