Ah, the thrill of competition. NVIDIA and AMD/ATI always seems to go a few rounds every once in a while and here we go again. On AMD's blog, Ian McNaughton
takes a jab at NVIDIA"s The Way It's Meant to Be Played program and how some games on the PC are too NVIDIA-centric.
For example,
Batman: Arkham Asylum allows for in-game anti-aliasing toggling but only for NVIDIA cards. It's more efficient for the game to do the AA because it can selectively do it rather than all the time like it would happen if you turn it on in a control panel. So, to get a fairer test between cards, you should turn off AA in Batman.
Need For Speed: Shift seems to have some bugs and inefficiencies in the code for AMD hardware.
I'm a person that prefers open standards and such but also see the business side of why NVIDIA's doing what they are doing. I would prefer everyone be on a level playing field however and features that work with one brand of card work with another. It might never happen again but maybe someday, we'll be able to use physics acceleration and 3D without having to make a choice of one or the other.
