Konami announced today that they will be bringing their arcade old rail shooter Silent Scope to the Apple App store later this year. In the game you play a sniper who's tasked with saving the president and the first family from terrorists in Chicago. Yes the plot is a bit out there but the game was a lot of fun in the arcades mostly due to the fact that the machines has a sweet killer sniper rifle mounted to the machine. The game will feature all of the game modes from the original quarter muncher as you can play through the story mode or test your sniping chops in training mode or at the shooting range. I'm guessing the game will be a little easier on the iPhone because you can simply point where you want to shoot instead of having to rotate the sniper rifle to find your target. Personally this kills about 80% of the fun of the original as looking for the guys to blow away from the limited view of the sniper rifle made up most of the challenge of the game. This will probably be the first of many light gun games to make it's way to the iPhone and hopefully they retain some of the fun of the originals.

Designed to take full advantage of Apple's innovative Multi-Touch user interface, Silent Scope will feature tap-to-shoot game controls. In this rail shooter, players can choose from different gameplay modes, including Arcade Mode and Training Mode. Inexperienced marksmen can practice precision shooting in the Training Mode, while veteran snipers can go straight to the Arcade Mode featuring up to three stages of gameplay: Story, Shooting Range and Time Attack. The Arcade Mode also allows players to change the game settings to Difficulty, Player Life and Branch Select.
