We already know that the PSP has quite an impressive line-up of games coming in the next few months. We're talking about Rock Band, Assassin's Creed, Little Big Planet, SOCOM, Ratchet & Clank, Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts and that MotorStorm game. If that wasn't enough, Namco Bandai has announced two more PSP games slated for a 2009 release. Not only is this great news for PSP owners, but it's fantastic news for fighting game fans. These are two of the best fighting game franchises, and Namco's last PSP outing (
Tekken: Dark Resurrection) was an overwhelming success.
Up first is
Tekken 6, the portable port of the hugely popular arcade fighting game. As we all know, Tekken 6 is slated for a PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 release, but who knew that a PSP port would be far behind? Apparently this portable version will not be stripped down, but rather feature brand new content and modes. There's no word on whether or not it will "talk" with the PlayStation 3 version, but I wouldn't rule it out.
While Tekken 6 was a welcome addition, I was overjoyed with the next announcement -
Soul Calibur: Broken Destiny. This fighting game will sport some of the best-loved characters from the past installments and offer new stages and modes. Best of all, Namco is wisely stripping away all of the unneeded Star Wars stuff and just giving us a pure fighting experience. Expect at least one new character (Dampierre) and a bunch of screen shots come E3 time.
