Genesis does with the Sega Genesis Mini

More On: Sega Genesis Mini

The Sega Genesis Mini is a little over a month away and Sega is celebrating with a very nostalgic commercial. The new Genesis Does trailer very clearly pays homage to the classic "Genesis Does What Nintendon't" TV ads of the early 90s. Developed by Sega of America CEO Michael Katz, the slogan went right after the competition and emphasized the flashier, edgier, arcade-ier games you could only play on the Sega Genesis. A year later Katz's successor, Tom Kalinske, would go on to spearhead even more aggressive advertising that eventually put Nintendo on the back foot...until Sony showed up with the PlayStation and wiped the floor with everyone.

Simpler times that I yearn for some days. The ads were corny, the games were hard, and the game consoles looked like Batman gadgets. I'm looking forward to revisiting those halcyon days when the Genesis Mini arrives on September 19th.

Genesis Does: SEGA Genesis Turns 30 Years Young

Genesis Does. A simple phrase that threw down the gauntlet against the competition. More than just a catchy slogan that defined the strengths of the SEGA Genesis and its innovative library filled with arcade hits, those two words defined the confidence (and swagger) SEGA personified at a time when the competition was fierce.

30 years later, the SEGA Genesis remains beloved in the hearts of fans the world over. In honor of this remarkable launch, we have reimagined the classic Genesis Does commercial to bring Genesis fans back to the glory days of the 16-bit revolution. This time, however, we're putting the focus on the powerful line-up of the SEGA Genesis Mini. Watch our new Genesis Does commercial!
